Brocade Hires Software-Defined Networking Expert and Author, Tom Nadeau

Distinguished Engineer Joins as Company Heightens Its Focus on SDN and NFV

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/03/14 -- Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) announced today the hiring of networking veteran Tom Nadeau to the position of Distinguished Engineer. With his extensive experience in Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Nadeau will be a vital resource in advancing the company's open source SDN and NFV strategy and involvement, specifically related to the OpenDaylight Project and OpenStack initiatives.

During his 20-year career, Nadeau has gained extensive experience in developing standards, architectures and telecommunication strategies, such as MPLS. He is the co-inventor of more than 40 U.S. and International pending patents, 20 of which have been granted. In addition to his standards work, Nadeau is heavily involved with several industry associations, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), where he is the co-author of 36 IETF Request for Comments (RFC) documents. Furthermore, he is an author of what is considered to be the authoritative text on the subject, "SDN: Software-Defined Networks."

"Tom has dedicated his career to advancing network designs through his work on industry standards and educating customers on the evolving relationship between software and hardware in the data center," said Ken Cheng, chief technology officer and vice president, corporate development and emerging business. "His extensive background in networking standards development will be instrumental in ensuring that Brocade's open source initiatives are properly executed to meet the demands of our customers."

Nadeau will join the engineering leadership team of the Software Networking business unit at Brocade. Additionally, he will collaborate closely with the Office of the CTO on strategic initiatives.

"The pace at which SDN has transformed the industry is astounding, but community-oriented open source projects have the potential to further accelerate customer adoption by producing multivendor-supported solutions," said Nadeau. "Brocade's involvement in projects such as OpenDaylight demonstrates its understanding of the evolving data center and the solutions customers need to be successful."

Previously, Nadeau served as a Distinguished Engineer at Juniper, where he was heavily involved in the company's SDN and NFV efforts. He has held similar roles at CA Technologies, Cisco and others.

Last month, Brocade announced the hiring of Benson Schliesser, another industry luminary with a strong understanding of emerging technologies.
